Fall Carnival

Sunday, October 3, 2010, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m..  This year’s Fall Carnival will be our biggest and best yet!  Enjoy ALL NEW carnival rides, midway games and large inflatables as well as new fun activities such as video gaming. Many former favorites will return such as the hay ride with Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood, the cake walk, and dance performances in the cafeteria. The basket raffle has moved to Bingo Night later in the year and we will offer a new Silent Auction at Fall Carnival!  You will be able to bid for special moments with your teachers and fun activities such as riding the Milton Fire Truck home from school one day!  The Varsity truck and other food vendors will be on hand as well as other carnival goodies such as baked goods, popcorn and sno-cones.  From sand art to hands-on science, there will be something fun for every member of your family!

Pre-order your wristbands and receive a $5 discount!  Wristbands ordered before carnival will be $15 ($20 on carnival day) for ages 5 and up;  $5 for ages 4 and under.  There will be many opportunities for you to pre-order.  Please remember that Fall Carnival is now the PTA’s largest fundraiser, so we hope you will bring your extended family and invite friends to join us for a full day of fun!  Questions about wristbands? Contact Melissa Jackson, mcjhome@yahoo.com or Karen Chambers, karen@imagefreeway.com.

We need you to volunteer! The cheerful participation of SHE families makes our Fall Carnival a big success every year. Please consider volunteering for a couple of hours on carnival day. You may sign up through your classrooms on curriculum night or contact Natalie Spradling, Volunteer Coordinator at nspradling@comcast.net.

Donuts for Dads

Tuesday, February 15 and Wednesday, February 16, 2011.  Times to be announced.  This popular  Summit Hill tradition is not just for Dads, but for any loved ones who want to start the day with a warm donut and a smile from their favorite SHE student.  Participants arrive early with the students for coffee and donuts in the cafeteria before the school day begins.

Book Fair

November 5-12, 2010.  Get an early start on holiday shopping at the Scholastic Book Fair featuring titles for children and adults as well as cool accessories, puzzles, posters and school supplies. Students and teachers will preview the sale during school hours the week of November 1-5 and create a wish lists.  The sale will open to the public on Friday evening, November 5th (SHE Movie Night) and continue on during school hours November 8-12.     For more information, contact Book Fair Coordinators Stacy Newell, smnewell66@yahoo.com and Jodi Niblock, jniblock@comcast.net.

Teacher Breakfast

The PTA treats Summit Hill teachers and staff to a full breakfast buffet one morning during their pre-planning days at the beginning of the school year.

Teacher Appreciation Week

March 14-18, 2010.  Students and parents shower the Summit Hill teachers with little gifts, cards and thoughtful gestures during this week in March. Look for communication from your Room Reps for details on how you can show your teachers how much you appreciate the work they do. The PTA also provides a theme luncheon for the teachers and staff during the week.

Red Ribbon Week

Summit Hill participates in this national program designed to educate children about the effects of drug and alcohol use.  Keeping it positive and fun, the kids participate in theme dress days like “Turn Your Back on Drugs” Day where they wear their shirts backwards.  Speakers or other entertainment forms give the kids age-level appropriate information and at the end of the week the students may choose to sign a pledge to be drug free.  For more information on Red Ribbon Week, contact Shannon Encinger, sencinger@bellsouth.net.

Spring Family Fun Event

Our spring family fun event is still being planned. In the past we have offered the Sock Hop, but new plans are in the works for this year!

Partner Nights

PTA teams up with Summit Hill’s business partners to offer many events for SHE families throughout the year.  From dine-in nights at local restaurants to family events at places like Barnes and Noble and Just for Giggles (art studio).  Keep an eye out in the Hilltop Happenings newsletter for listings of the lastest Business Partner events and come out to support our partners and our school!  For more information on our business partners program, look for the Partners tab on the home page of this website.
